Don't tell my wife, a custom and commercial skin maker in Second Life ^®, but thanks to Vint Falken's blog (Web) I've learned of another source of free Photoshop^® -format files that you can use to make free skins. Well, free plus the L$30 cost of uploads for a complete skin after you edit the template to your taste. For a really nominal cost you can have a skin unlike any other in-world. You can be YOU!

New Eloh Eliot Skins

The famous open-source free skins from Eloh Eliot have just gotten an update. Read more at Vint Falken's blog. With a little practice you can make your own fabulous skins. What? You find Adobe Photoshop too spendy? Try GIMP for free. It's what I used to make my FrootSkins from an Eloh template.
